Oral Prophylaxis

Oral prophylaxis or tooth cleaning is a routine procedure we advice our patients to have twice a year. This procedure removes calcular deposit in the teeth using ultrasonic scalers. Calcular deposits are hardened plaque that cannot be removed using toothbrush or dental floss. Polishing is also performed after scaling.

We believe good oral hygiene is a very important, if not the most important, routine for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Good oral hygiene involves proper toothbrushing and flossing techniques. We advice our patients to brush every after meals and floss at least once a day. We also encourage tongue scrapping to remove bacterial plaque in the tongue and gargling the right mouth wash every other day to lessen the harmful microorganisms in the mouth. Another good practice is having your teeth professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Professional cleaning removes hard calcular deposits in the teeth (calculus/tartar) that you can’t remove with brushing or flossing.

Good oral hygiene is important not only for the health of your teeth but for your gums and bone as well. Poor oral hygiene leads to a lot of dental problems. The earlier a person realizes this and puts an effort into taking care of their teeth, the lesser dental problems they’ll  encounter during their life.
